    Plaquenil and steroids

So I'm on Prednisone again after weaning off of it. thanks, nev There could be many reasons why you were put back on Prednisone. I don't get many side effects generally, but with prednisone I DO. It does help, but this can't be a long term affair. Plaquenil is a great drug (I have no experience with it, but many people with lupus take it). I'd ask your rheumy about it and have them explain why they made that choice for you. Prednisone is an intermediate acting corticosteroid-which means it has direct anti-inflamitory properties that take effect begining in a few hours.

Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil is a drug that is classified as an anti-malarial drug. Plaquenil is prescribed for the treatment or prevention of malaria. It is also prescribed for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and the side effects of lupus such as hair loss, joint pain, and more. Jessie, plaquenil can take up to 6 months to take effect. I was told to not not try to discontinue any of my lupus meds while my medical condition was unstable. At the time, I had a sinus infection. Jessie, 3 years ago, my doctor discontinued my plaquenil ie. hydroxychloroquen and substituted it for an older anti-malerial drug named. Oct 10, 2003 I was prescribed plaquenil and steroids about 3 years ago when I could hardly move with sero-negative arthritis. I thougt they were the best thing since sliced bread. I wouldn't recommend but without Dr advice I went off Plaquenil about 4 months ago - had problems for about 6 weeks then settled down.

Plaq is a longer time medication it may take two months before their is a noticable difference. Is plaquenil another option instead of the prednisone? It is ment to get this undercontrol now and diminish your pain.

  5. Anabolic steroids are sometimes used by weightlifters and other athletes to increase strength. Steroid medications work quickly to decrease the swelling, warmth, tenderness and pain that are related to inflammation. They do this by lessening the immune system’s response. Prednisone is the most commonly prescribed steroid for lupus.
